Take back the spot
the stump is sitting on
Grind down what is left behind. We take stumps below grade so you can reclaim the space, replant, or finish your landscaping clean.
The last step of a removal, done right
Stump grinding uses a purpose built machine to chew a stump down below the level of the surrounding ground, taking surface roots with it where needed. It is how you actually finish a tree removal, instead of mowing around a dead stump for the next decade while it sprouts, rots, and invites pests.
Raleigh yards grow big trees, and big trees leave big stumps. The mature oaks and hardwoods that gave the City of Oaks its name do not leave behind something you can dig out with a shovel on a Saturday. Grinding is the fast, clean way to get that spot back for grass, new planting, or landscaping.
We grind stumps of any size across Raleigh, NC and surrounding Wake County, whether we removed the tree or someone else left the stump behind, including tight access spots other equipment cannot reach.

Quality Work With Integrity
Our crew does the job right, treats your home like our own, and does not cut corners to save time.
Clean Site, Every Time
We haul off the debris, rake up, and leave your yard cleaner than we found it. The job is done when you are happy.
On grinding jobs, planning means checking access, protecting the lawn on the way in, and knowing what you want the finished spot to look like. Then we grind below grade, handle the surface roots, and clean up the grindings and debris.
What affects the cost
Stump grinding is usually one of the more affordable tree services, and the price comes down to a few things:
- Size of the stump. Diameter and how much of the trunk is left standing drive the grinding time.
- Number of stumps. Grinding several in one visit is more efficient than one at a time.
- Surface roots. Big flared roots that need grinding add to the work.
- Access. Whether the machine can drive right up, or has to work through a gate or a narrow side yard.
- Finish and cleanup. How deep you want the grind and whether the grindings stay as fill or get hauled off.
We look at the stump in person and give you a free, clear price before we grind. If we are already removing the tree, ask us to price the stump at the same time.
Stump grinding questions
Not seeing your question? Call us and we will talk it through.
Call (919) 675-9756We grind below grade, which means below the surface of the surrounding ground. How deep depends on what you want the spot to do next. Just want grass over it? Below grade is plenty. Planning to replant or landscape? Tell us at the estimate and we will grind to suit the plan.
Yes. Tight access grinding is a normal part of the job for us. We bring equipment sized for the space, so a fence, gate, or narrow side yard does not mean the stump has to stay.
Grinding turns the stump into wood chips and leaves a shallow area we clean up as part of the job. We leave the spot with a ready to replant finish, so you can bring in soil, seed grass, or put in new landscaping.
